Awards

    The Bishop Byrne Chapter of the Catholic Library Association presents three significant awards:
 
The Ann Martin Book Mark Award
The Guiding Light Award
Tthe Bishop Byrne Award

 Ann Martin Book Mark Award
    
    This award is presented to an outstanding professional: in the library field, an author, illustrator, or a person that has provided a positive role model with encouraging attitudes toward reading and library service to students. 

       Ann Martin created the position of Supervisor of Parochial School Libraries in the diocese in 1966.  She was active in CLA and sought recognition of the importance of libraries in the diocese. She was a librarian at Mt. Carmel and retired in 1974.

The Guiding Light Award 

    This award is  voted upon by the membership in alternating years with the Ann Martin Book Mark Award. The purpose of this award is to honor a member of Bishop Byrne Chapter who possesses attributes that are similar to those of a lighthouse providing a beacon for others to follow.

Criteria are as follows:
E
pitomizes the values and principles outlined in the mission statement of CLA and the objectives of the Bishop Byrne Chapter.  Contributes to Bishop Byrne Chapter over and beyond the call of duty.  Requires five years of service in Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston or related facilities, through church, parish, school, university, or other catholic institution.  Provides inspiration and energy to the organization.

This award is voted upon by the chapter at special times and is presented  to those individuals or organizations that provide exceptional support in financial or in kind donations that sustain the chapter as needed.
